Holidays in semproniano in province of grosseto
Semproniano covers approximately 80 square km in the innermost part of the Hills of Albegna and Fiora close to Mount Amiata. The altitude of the area ranges from 400 m to 800 m above sea level. The town owes its existence and its name to the family of the roman figure Sempronius Gracchus who settled here once ran away from Rome. In the Middle Ages it was administered by the Aldobrandeschi, powerful family of Grosseto, who built the fortress. Around the fortress was built the core of the village which will become the town still existing. Submissive to Siena in 1300, Semproniano remained tied until the florentine conquest and the next transition under the control of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. The historic center, tight around the few remains of the fortress, is built mostly in stone and is characterized by steep streets in tiers. Next to the castle is the small Church of Santa Croce from the XII century and restored several times, the interior has a white-black bands motif typical of the neogothic style. Lower down is the Parish Church of Santi Vincenzo and Anastasio that houses some decorative elements of the '200 and a painting of the' 600 on the major altar. Of particular interest is the town of Rocchette Fazio, remained almost frozen to the medieval period is a stone village with the remains of a small fortress surrounded by walls. There are also the Palazzo dell'Ospedaletto, perhaps a templar outpost in the province of Grosseto, and the Parish of Santa Cristina, of the thirteenth century and now desecrated, on whose door is a templar cross.|Semproniano
